ABOUT JACKIE SCHUBERT

Bringing Experience, Leadership and Integrity to County Treasurer's Office

I am the appointed Refugio County Treasurer since September 25, 2024. I am a Christian, single mother and a fur mama. I am dedicated to all of those titles. I spend many extra hours on county business: learning about investments, tracking the bank accounts, inputting deposits, payroll, human resource information, creating reports, bank reconciliations, creating policies, and lately learning the counties new accounting software. I am a republican and very conservative, business wise and in my personal finances.

However, You can find me at church every Sunday. Plus bible studies where ever I can find one. I did teach children's Sunday school for many years, and volunteered for vacation bible school and anything to help those in need.

With all of that I love to hang out with my son, Michael. He graduated form Woodsboro High School in 2023. He started his college career at Tarleton State University for 2 years. But in fall of  2025 he transferred to Baylor University. He is working on his Bachelor's in History. Which means I have more time on my hands now then before.

My family has long history in Refugio County. My Schubert family migrated to Refugio County.  And are in the farming, ranching and oil and gas industry. My Denney family was born here in Refugio County and was apart of the Airforce and in the oil and gas industry, nursing and county business.

I grew up in Woodsboro, attended Woodsboro High School, were I participated in sports, church, cheerleading, woodshop and accounting UIL team.

I moved away for college and received an Associates in the Animation in 1998. I eventually went back to college online to learn about business and earned a Bachelor in Accounting in 2008.

In my free time, I enjoy the outdoors, taking a nice walk, traveling to museums and seeing beautiful nature sites and many types of sporting events. I love to draw, paint, graphics and woodworking. I also spend as much time as I can with my fur babies.

I have worked in different industries that allowed me to use both of my degrees. I was the animator for a cable training company. Where I helped create training simulator. I was an accountant, scheduler, inventory person, marketing and human resource helper at a seismic winch manufacturer. I spent 8 years at newspaper publication company as the lead graphic designer. You saw my work in the Refugio County Press for many years. I also for a while was the secretary at a local church.

After Hurricane Harvey, I came to Refugio County part-time through a workforce grant helping with the counties FEMA projects for the County Attorney and Auditors office. Eventually I was hired fulltime to continue the FEMA projects along with being the counties accounts payable clerk in the Auditor's office, as Assistant Auditor in 2019.

In 2024, I was appointed as County Treasurer by the Refugio County Commissioner's court. And for the past year, I have been going to training and conferences and learning everything that is involved with treasurers office. I have worked to find ways to cut costs for the office by using technology and cutting anything that seemed duplicated. I am a technophile, which means I'm not scared of computer technology. I thought I should explain that, I realize how that word sounds.

October of 2025, myself, my wonderful staff and the auditor's office, have been working tirelessly on transition to a new accounting software. This software is capably of doing so much more for the county. I am taking full advantage of that by adding many of the extra funds the county has into this software. To eliminate so much manual work. So that we can be more transparent for the citizens. A suggestion from our external auditor's.

My staff is also great, and it was my goal to make sure that everyone is cross trained on all the tasks that are required of us. So business does not have to stop, if one person is to busy on a project or out of the office for any reason.
